The Hobbit: Part 1 (2012)
Not yet released (but fans are chomping at the bit knowing it’s being filmed) — Adventure | Fantasy – Due in theaters: December 19, 2012 (USA). Status: Filming.
Locations: New Zealand. Part 2 will be released in 2013.
Synopsis (for all the fans-really now, this isn’t even necessary!):
Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit, journeys to the Lonely Mountain accompanied by a group of dwarves to reclaim a treasure taken from them by the dragon Smaug.
Director: Peter Jackson
Stars: Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Elijah Wood (Frodo), Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), Leonard Nimoy (Smaug [rumored]), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield), Christopher Lee (Saruman), Andy Serkis (Gollum), James Nesbitt (Bofur), Aidan Turner (Kili).
Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf and who better to play that character? He is perfect for it. He’ll have a few wardrobe and hair changes, but we’ll know him the moment we see him. He is one of the most beloved characters of Tolkien’s creations.
Andy Serkis, who portrays Gollum, is another example of the perfect actor who was chosen to play such an unusual part. No offense to Serkis, but the man’s eyes and facial features – when tweaked for his role – are dead-on Gollum. Freaky, but love him!
The Hobbit fans should view the 10 minute behind-the-scenes video created on the set, which was just posted on April 14, and with Peter Jackson discussing the movie. The scenery brings back memories from the Lord of the Rings films.
